Few things to try:
2. Are you truly burning a DVD? or are you burning a data disc? Data discs work on a PC, or with a DVD player that supports Divx/Xvid as long as the AVI uses the codec.
3. Something may have changed the root system settings of the actual DVD driver which causes it to burn data discs where it used to burn DVD. Check the options or preferences in the program and look for a setting that says start with windows and disable it.
If you're burning data discs by mistake using Nero I will give you a simple run through how to burn a DVD:
1. Open NeroVision 2. Select DVD-DVD Video 3.Click on Add Video files 4. Highlight your movie file and click Open 5. Files will be added to NV window, you may have to wait a while 6.Once files are added, click Next 7. Click Next until you reach Burn
8. Insert a blank DVD-R into your DVD burner 9. Click burn and sit back and wait.
