I would take a different approach and use Flash as a delivery format to server content on the web. There should not be much downloadig with that.  I generally don't use AVI files for the web but usually choose one of the streaming formats, Real, Windows Media, QuickTime or Flash. You'll will have better success that way. 

If you don't have a compression tool take a look at using Flash Video Studio.  It's available in The DVshow's Download Vault.
